This year again, the traditional Ondrejský Jarmok will take place in Brezno, ranking among the most popular events in Horehronie. The Ondrejský Jarmok, bearing the name of Saint Andrew, the patron of the local church, has from the beginning been linked to late autumn, when people prepared for winter and stocked their households with necessary goods. Over time, the markets expanded with accompanying cultural programs, creating an event that was not only a place of trade but also of meeting and entertainment.
Today, the Ondrejský Jarmok attracts thousands of visitors not only from Horehronie but also from the wider area. The highlight of the event is a rich selection of traditional handicrafts—woodcarvings, ceramics, wicker baskets, leather goods, and gingerbread decorated with folk motifs. There are also stalls with homemade cheeses, smoked meats, honey, herbs, and spirits.
For many residents and visitors, the fair is associated with childhood memories—stalls with cotton candy, trdelník, walnut cakes, or toys that are still sold today. Traditional gastronomy complements the authentic atmosphere that distinguishes the fair from ordinary markets.
Alongside its commercial part, the Ondrejský Jarmok is also an important cultural event.
